Jimmy White scored his first win of the season with an impressive 5-3 victory over Oliver Lines in the Shanghai Masters qualifiers on Wednesday.
Crowd favourite White lost in the opening round of the Australian Goldfields Open and Riga Open, but got his campaign up and running by beating promising Lines.
Leeds cueman Lines came from 3-1 down to 3-3, but White dominated the seventh frame then closed out the match with a break of 88. He now faces Jack Lisowski and needs three more wins to reach the final stages in Shanghai in September.
Iran’s Hossein Vafaei Ayouri continued to impress in his first full pro season as he beat Alfie Burden 5-1 with a top break of 55.
Joel Walker won a Sheffield derby against Adam Duffy 5-2 while Jamie Cope made a 103 in a 5-1 defeat of Mitchell Mann.
Australia’s Vinnie Calabrese beat Thor Chuan Leong 5-1 with a top break of 60 while Scotland’s Ross Muir made a 100 in a 5-1 victory over Tony Drago.

Zhou – tough opening match
Zhou Yuelong, half of China’s World Cup winning team, edged out Hammad Miah 5-4 thanks to a vital 47 in the decider, while Liam Highfield saw off Michael Wild 5-0 with runs of 54, 51, 74, 62 and 51.
