Williams – My Glory Days Are Over
Mark Williams is now playing his 25th professional season but insists his days of winning titles are gone.
The two-time World Champion from Wales heads to Latvia this week for the first ranking event of the campaign – the Kaspersky Riga Masters. World number 13 Williams performed impressively in the qualifiers in Preston this month, also making it to the final stages of the Indian Open and World Open.
But the 41-year-old from Cwm, whose last ranking title came at the 2011 German Masters, said: “I’m rubbish compared to what I used to be. I’m still in the top 16 but sometimes I laugh at myself and wonder how.
“I play a couple of good matches here and there, but if I had to say honestly whether I though I could win tournament again I’d say probably not.
“I was more than happy to win all three qualifying matches. The more events you are in the more chance you have of going on a run. Last season I played in every tournament, though this season I might miss a few here and there.”
