Delegates from Germany, Bosnia and the UK attended the recent WPBSA World Snooker Community Coach Course at the South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester.

Led by Chris Lovell and Andrew Highfield, the one day course covers:

– An introduction to the game
– World Snooker and the WPBSA
– Hot to involve the community and develop the game in your area
– How to organise a competition
– Rules of the game
– Child Protection / Safeguarding
– An introduction to the basics of the game
– The history of the game
– The Paul Hunter Foundation
– Cue Zone Into Schools

Chris Lovell said: “It was great to see people coming together to take the steps we need to continue to grow the game. It’s a real testament to the work undertaken by World Snooker overseas that we now find new people from around Europe wanting to get involved at grass roots level.”

What course participants said:

“I really enjoyed it! Thanks again for introducing the Paul Hunter Foundation to all of us. I would like to get involved in order to help the foundation to promote its goals. In the next couple of days I will contact my local club to see if they are willing to support me.”

John Hunter, who founded the Cuestars circuit in the south of England nearly 30 years ago, said: “It was great to meet up with other snooker enthusiasts. On the course were participants from Berlin and Sarajevo!

“I liked the nature of the course and really enjoyed the day. It’s affordable and Chris Lovell and Andrew Highfield made it both informing and fun. I encourage those with coaching and organising aspirations to take the course. For anyone wanting to become a snooker coach, it’s the perfect way to start.”

Cuestars runs weekend junior sections at various clubs in central southern England and five different grass-root tours catering for players of all ages and abilities. Lovell and Highfield have offered to run a Community Snooker Coach day in the Cuestars region. Anyone interested should e-mail john@cuestars.co.uk
