Zhou Knocked Out By Xu
Zhou Yuelong enjoyed a superb run to the final of the recent BetVictor Northern Ireland Open but he won’t even be at the final stages of the BetVictor English Open as he lost 4-2 to Xu Si in the qualifying round.
Zhou is up to 21st in the world but loses momentum after defeat in a Chinese derby against a player ranked 52 places lower. Xu goes through to the televised stages in Brentwood in December.
Breaks of 62 and 105 helped put Xu 2-0 ahead before Zhou pulled one back with a 101. The next two were shared then Xu sealed the result in frame six with a run of 120.
Dylan Emery fired breaks of 107 and 100 during a 4-0 win over Li Hang. Look out for a WST podcast episode with promising rookie Emery, to be released on Monday.
Martin Gould top scored with 104 in a 4-2 defeat of Andy Lee, while Hossein Vafaei saw off Zhang Jiankang by the same scoreline. Fraser Patrick eased to a 4-0 success over Jimmy White.
