Brown Hopes For Belfast Success

Jordan BrownAntrim’s Jordan Brown hopes to regain a place on snooker’s professional tour as he looks ahead to next week’s Coral Northern Open in Belfast.

Brown, age 29, played just one season on the tour in 2009/10 and has been among the amateur ranks ever since. He won a tournament last month, beating Raymond Fry 5-2 in the final, to earn a wild card spot at the world ranking event in Belfast which runs from November 14 to 20.

He will face Ben Woollaston in the first round on Monday afternoon, and hopes to make an impact on the big stage.

“The butterflies are starting now and I will be nervous on the day,” said Brown. “I just have to block that out. It will be my biggest game since I played John Higgins live on TV in a tournament in Scotland in 2012, and I won that match so that will stand me in good stead. I know I am good enough to compete with the best of them but it’s up to me to prove that. I will have a lot of friends and family watching me so hopefully it will go well.”

Jordan BrownBrown currently works in a petrol station in Antrim but hopes he has a future on the green baize. “I realise the years are flying by and it’s time I did something in snooker,” he said. “My goal is to get back on to the tour and I’ll be playing in Q School every year until I achieve that. It’s not easy to find the time to practise when you are working full time, but I have been playing a lot recently to prepare myself.

“I practise against the likes of Mark Allen, Joe Swail and Patrick Wallace, and I have recently got back on board with a coach called Marty Brammeld who has helped me a lot. If I can get back on the tour I feel I’ve got the potential to do well.”

With 128 players in the field and eight tables in the arena in the early stages, the Coral Northern Ireland Open is an incredible chance for fans to see live sport at the highest level. Ronnie O’Sullivan, Judd Trump, John Higgins and Jimmy White will be among those competing for the £70,000 top prize and the Alex Higgins Trophy.
