Carrington Sees Off Allen In Barnsley

Stuart Carrington continued his hot streak of form in Barnsley, as he swept past Gareth Allen to reach the final round of qualifying for the Shanghai Masters.

Carrington had already compiled a string of high breaks in his previous match with Michael Georgiou.  He picked up where he left off in the opener against Allen, with a run of 91.  Further contributions of 82, 128 and 50 were enough to wrap up a 5-2 win.

Jack LisowskiJack Lisowski came out on top of a tight clash with Chinese youngster Zhao Xintong.  With the game poised at 3-3, Xintong made 93 in the seventh frame and 65 in the eighth, as he looked set to take the match. However, Lisowski responded with a fantastic counter clearance of 68, to take the frame on the black and force a decider. A contribution of 59 saw Lisowski through to the final round of qualifying.

The surprise result of the day was Mei Xiwen’s shock defeat world number 36 Dominic Dale. The 33-year-old Xiwen made breaks of 73 and 108, as he moved 4-0 in front. He completed an emphatic 5-1 win with a run of 54 in the sixth frame.

Jamie Jones moved within one win of Shanghai, with an impressive 5-0 defeat of Fergal O’Brien. The Welshman Jones wasted little time in securing the victory, making breaks of 52, 68, 49 and 102.

Another Welshman Matthew Stevens secured passage to the final round of qualifying, with a 5-3 win over Martin O’Donnell. The victory sets up the tie of the final round against world number 17 Martin Gould.
