Higgins Passes Carrington Test

John Higgins won five frames in a row to beat Stuart Carrington 6-2 in the qualifying round of the International Championship.

Four-time World Champion Higgins struggled in the early stages in Barnsley and trailed 2-1, but found an extra gear and won the next five frames with a top break of 65 to make it to the final stages in Chengdu, China.

Jimmy White came through a fierce battle against Alex Davies, winning 6-5. Veteran White was never in front and had to come from 4-2 and 5-4 behind, but forced a decider and took it 73-54 after his opponent failed to gain the snooker he needed on the pink.

Shanghai Masters champion Stuart Bingham saw off Michael Wasley 6-4 with a top break of 85 while amateur Zak Surety beat Mark King 6-3 with a top run of 81.

Martin Gould came from 4-1 down to beat Cao Xinlong 6-4 with a top break of 102 while Ryan Day edged out Lyu Haotian 6-5 with a 64 in the decider.

Amateur Oliver Brown, who knocked Ding Junhui out of the Wuxi Classic, claimed another scalp by beating Jamie Cope 6-3, the highlight a run of 104 in frame eight.

Barry Hawkins top scored with 88 in a 6-0 thrashing of Ratchayothin Yotharuck while Mark Davis saw off Lee Walker 6-2 with a top break of 94.
