An uncomfortable looking Mark Williams soared to a 4-0 win over Martin O’Donnell despite recovering from a painful shoulder operation, with breaks of 87 and 56 helping him into the last 16. After the match, Williams said that he was ‘in agony’ and ‘constant pain’.
Ben Woollaston sealed a solid 4-1 victory over world number ten Ricky Walden, with the Welsh Open finalist winning 4 consecutive frames and finishing with a century to book his slot in the last 16.
Tom Ford rounded his win over Michael Holt off with a sweet 127 clearance in the deciding frame, while Matt Selt enjoyed breaks of 79 and 126 in the last 2 frames to beat Robert Milkins 4-2.
Rory McLeod saw off Hammad Miah 4-2 in the last 32, with breaks of 65 and 42 helping seal the victory and book his place against Tom Ford in the last 16.
Shaun Murphy saw off Peter Ebdon 4-2 with a top clearance of 76, whilst youngster Oliver Lines went 3-1 up against Ali Carter before finishing ahead and sealing the victory at 4-2.
Finally it was China’s Liang Wenbo who knocked out world champion Stuart Bingham and secured his place in the next round, going 3-0 up before sealing the win at 4-1.
