For snooker players, it’s often hard to stay consistent with your game when you’re either stuck in a room all day or in a snooker hall. Here are three tips to optimise your health while on tour.

1 – Aim for 8,000 to 10,000 steps per day. This is a great way to reduce stress and clear your mind. It’s also good for keeping your fitness levels up if there isn’t access to a gym.

2 – Focus on vegetables and water. Vegetables are known to have great health benefits, so it’s absolutely crucial to ensure you’re hitting five to ten portions a day! Staying hydrated is also a huge factor in terms of the health of your body. Clear urine is a good indicator of good hydration levels. Aim for two to three litres of water per day – this is brilliant for mental concentration in key moments of a match.

3 – Take Five! In stressful situations we face something called ‘Fight Or Flight’ meaning that we either stand up to the situation or we avoid it. Taking five minutes to perform deep diaphragmatic breathing and making sure muscles are oxygenated could be vital! Diaphragmatic breathing is where you breathe through the diaphragm instead of the lungs, allowing you to get a deeper breath on board and relieve you of stress.

I try to get my brother Kyren to follow these three tips, and it was working when he won in Germany last week! Implement this advice and see how it improves your results.

Finally, give this little conditioning workout a try for better core control and upper body strength:
