Not bad for a week’s work
Find out more about the new Shanghai Masters champion…
Abroad – What is your favourite holiday destination?
Book – What is the last book you read?
I don’t read books so I’ll have to pass on that one.
Cue – What cue do you use?
It’s a John Parris cue.
Day – What happens in a typical working day for you?
I wake up early, change some nappies, practise at my snooker club, play football in the evening and then spend some time with my fiancée.
Education – How would you get on in a pub quiz?
I’d probably say average. I’m not overly smart and I’m not overly thick, but I know enough.
With fiancée Sophie
Film – What is your favourite film?
I’ve got two – Superbad and Rocky.
Goals – What are your aims for this season?
To win every match I play and every tournament I play in.
Hobbies – What are your interests away from the table?
I like playing a lot of football as well as spending time with my family and socialising with friends.
Idols – Who are yours?
I’d have to say my mum and dad.
Job – What would you be if you weren’t a snooker player?
I’ve always thought I’d love to get into some form of motor racing. For some reason I just take to it straight away. Maybe I could have been the next Lewis Hamilton!
Kid – Were you a well-behaved child?
I was never in trouble with police, but just did typical kid stuff like knock and run.
Taking on Ricky Walden on his Crucible debut in 2014
Lucky – What is the biggest piece of luck you’ve ever had?
I’d have to say the birth of my son, Finley.
Moan – What makes you have a good moan?
Finley waking me up too early!
Nightmare – What is your worst moment on a snooker table?
When I was a junior in the English Under-21 Championship, I missed out on qualifying for the European Junior Championship by one frame. I was heartbroken. I’d tried to qualify for five years and always missed out because of silly things.
Oops! – What is the clumsiest thing you’ve ever done?
I’ve only had a car for a short while and recently I reversed into a wheelbarrow, scratching it all down the side.
Winning our racing challenge at Silverstone last year
Picky – Is there anything you are particular about?
No, I’m quite laid back about life in general.
Quiet – How long could you last in a sponsored silence?
I could probably chill out and just not say anything for a while.
Retirement – What do you plan to do after hanging up your cue?
I’d like to move out to Tenerife with my family and have a nice relaxing life there.
Shopping – Where do you buy your clothes from?
My favourite shop is Zara – I love their unique style.
TV – What are your favourite programmes?
At the minute, I like The Walking Dead. I’m just catching up with season five and I’m really hooked on it.
Giving some tips to Chinese pupils at a school in Shanghai
Unforgettable – What is your greatest ever moment on a snooker table?
Making that clearance in the final frame to win the Shanghai Masters.
Venue – What is your favourite venue to play at?
At the moment, Shanghai. The Crucible is a one-off atmosphere, though, so I’d have to say there.
Wheels – What car do you drive?
I drive an Alpha Romeo GT but, now I’ve won the Shanghai Masters, I’m going to give it to my dad as a belated 50th birthday present.
X – If you could kiss any girl in the world, who would it be?
YIKES! – Do you have any phobias?
I’m not keen on spiders.
Zzzzz – What puts you to sleep?
A nice massage from my fiancée.
