Ronnie O'Sullivan raced into a 7-1 lead over Ali Carter in the first session of their quarter-final clash at the Johnstone's Paint Tour Championship.

Sporting a new mustard shirt, O'Sullivan looked sharp and determined as he took control against Carter, in a repeat of their bad-tempered Masters final in January. World number one O'Sullivan already has five titles under his belt this season and is looking for a 42nd career ranking title this week in Manchester.
Breaks of 77, 87, 54, 51, 81 and 92 helped O'Sullivan into a 7-0 lead. Carter took the last of the session with a 141 total clearance - the new target for the £10,000 high break prize - but he needs nine of the last 11 frames when they resume at 7pm on Wednesday.
On the other table, Zhang Anda came from 3-1 down to level at 4-4 against Gary Wilson. China's Zhang made the better breaks across the session with top runs of 85, 93 and 74. They return on Thursday at 1pm.
