The former European Masters champion is keeping positive about his career in the face of a long-term health problem...
Jimmy, firstly how do you feel about your start to the season?
I didn't play well in the Championship League, but then I won two of my three qualifying matches, getting through to both the China events. So I'm looking forward to going to Xi'an next week, it's always enjoyable to go to new cities. I'd love to have got through to the British Open as well, but to make it to both Xi'an and Wuhan is a decent start.
You spoke last year about the essential tremor which has affected your game, how is it now?
It's an ongoing thing which won't go away so I am just trying to adapt and stay confident. I have to accept it, get on with my career and look forward to each tournament. In my day to day life it seems a bit better than it was before, but in pressure situations at the big events when the adrenaline kicks in, that's when it affects me most.
When did the problem first start?
I've had it for a few years but I only spoke about it for the first time last season. I have seen specialists and they have told me it is not going away so I have to manage it. Sometimes my arms are like jelly, event when I am practising. That makes it very tough - snooker is hard enough already. But I can still win matches and that gives me confidence. I have also lost around three stone through dieting and running which has helped my overall health and the way I feel.
A few other players have had similar issues, including Scott Donaldson. Have you spoken to any of them?
Yes I spoke to Scott last season, but his tremor is different to mine. Jamie Cope had something similar to what I have. I don't want it to end my career so I have to learn to accept it. I have been told that it will not develop into anything more serious, so that's a positive.
Do you believe you can win more tournaments?
Yes, I can still play to a high level and you never know when you're going to get on a roll and have a deep run. Hopefully that's coming soon. Winning a tournament is a great feeling and I'd love to experience that at least one more time.
