The final of last week’s Johnstone’s Paint Players Championship achieved a peak viewing audience of 630,000 on ITV4, up 44% on the 2023 figure.
Mark Allen won the tournament in Telford, beating Zhang Anda 10-8 in a fiercely contested final. Throughout the week, ITV achieved significantly increased viewing figures compared to last year.
The average audience figure for the seven-day event was 39% up on 2023, while the cumulative audience across the event was 36% up. The average audience for the evening session of Sunday’s final was up 66%.
The event was staged at Telford International Centre for the first time and fans flocked to see snooker’s biggest names, with 47% more tickets sold, compared to the 2023 event. Based on this success, the tournament will return to Telford again in 2025, with tickets now on sale.
It was a tremendous week in Telford, the standard of play and level of drama this season have been astonishing. There is a huge and growing appetite for snooker both among television and online audiences as well as the fans who want to enjoy world class live sport at great value for money. We look forward to returning to Telford next season as it proved a very popular venue for the players and supporters.
