A peak of 1.32 million people tuned in to ITV4 to watch Sunday’s Spreadex World Grand Prix final, which is the largest ever audience for a snooker match on the channel.

Ronnie O’Sullivan defeated Judd Trump 10-7 in the final to extend his tournament winning streak to three events and 14 matches.

The average audience for the event as a whole was 313,000, which is up 13% on last year.

The tournament attracted consistently high viewing figures, with the peak audience for every day coming in at over 300,000. The cumulative audience for the week was four million, which is up by 22%.

WST'S Chief Marketing and Communications Officer Tom Rowell said: “We are delighted to see unprecedented viewing figures for the event. This is testament to the compelling action on the table and the brilliant job ITV do covering our sport. For ITV4 to achieve its highest ever peak snooker audience is a fantastic milestone.

“With two events left to go in this season’s Players Series, we only anticipate that the viewership will continue to trend upwards. Snooker is in a fantastic position and we are aiming to break further records in viewing figures and ticket sales in the months and years ahead."
