Shaun Murphy overcame a scare with his luggage to successfully negotiate his opening round tie at the Shanghai Masters and defeat John Higgins 6-3.
The Magician's bags were left stranded on the plane after he landed in Shanghai, when the hold doors failed to unlock. He was without new clothes and his cue for two days, before they eventually arrived. However, he got straight on the practice table and made up for lost time, following that up by producing a fine display to defeat Higgins.
Murphy said: "Sometimes you have to adapt and get on with it. I've never had an experience like that before. I've taken a direct flight and all my luggage arrived. It was metres away from me, but they couldn't unlock the baggage hold. In 25 years of touring, I've never seen anything like that and hopefully I won't again.
"It was funny, because I kept checking my Airtag to see where my luggage was and it hadn't moved from where we arrived for 48 hours. While everyone else was attending PR ceremonies and practising, I had one set of clothes, one set of pants, one pair of socks and it was a case of locking myself in the room and having as many showers as I could!"
