Mark Allen is set to become world number one for the first time in his career, following defeats for Judd Trump and Ronnie O'Sullivan at the Cazoo World Championship on Wednesday.
Allen is top of the provisional end of season list and now cannot be caught, so will become top dog when the official list is updated at the end of this Championship on Monday night.
He will be the first ever world number one from Northern Ireland, and only the 12th player in snooker history to hold that status, following Ray Reardon, Cliff Thorburn, Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry, John Higgins, Mark Williams, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Neil Robertson, Mark Selby, Judd Trump and Ding Junhui.
O'Sullivan has been number one since April 2022 but will now drop to either fourth or fifth. Trump will remain world number two, while Kyren Wilson could climb to third if he goes all the way to the £500,000 top prize.
Allen won three ranking events during the 2022/23 season, and a further two this term - the Shoot Out and Players Championship.
