By World Snooker Tour

Day two of Halo World Championship Qualifying saw a 62-year-old all-time great and a 14-year-old prodigy enter the fray at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield. 

With the first eight players to progress decided yesterday, round one continued on Tuesday with 16 further places in round two up for grabs.

Players enter this fiercely contested qualifying gauntlet at different stages depending on where they are seeded, as follows:

Round one begins today by pitting players ranked 81 to 112 against those ranked 113 to 144.

In round two, those 32 winners will face players ranked 49 to 80.

In round three, those 32 winners will face players ranked 17 to 48.

In round four, those 32 winners play each other, with the 16 winners going through to the Crucible. 

The qualifying rounds run until Wednesday April 16th. Huge drama is anticipated, with players competing to the backdrop of tour survival battles and a quest to achieve their dreams by earning qualification for the sport's grandest stage. Matches are contested over the best of 19 frames, across two sessions.

  • The Whirlwind has done it! Finally, with the match time crossing the nine hour barrier, Jimmy White has beaten Anton Kazakov 10-9. 

    White's Crucible dream remains in tact, his next assignment is a second round clash with Ashley Carty. 

    After the conclusion of an epic second day of action in Sheffield, we will return in just under nine hours to do it all again.

  • It's an excellent fightback victory for Oliver Lines. Having trailed 6-3 coming into this evening, the Yorkshire cueman has emerged a 10-8 winner over the UAE's Mohamed Shehab. 

    Jimmy White is now just one frame away from victory. He leads Anton Kazakov 9-7.

  • Jimmy White has the lead! Five frames on the bounce have seen the whirlwind turn this one on its head to move 8-7 up on Anton Kazakov. Can he finish the job? 

    Elsewhere, it has been a valiant effort from Polish 14-year-old Michal Szubarczyk, but Dean Young has got over the line to prevail 10-8 and keep his hopes of tour survival alive. 

    On table two, Oliver Lines and Mohamed Shehab are locked together at 8-8.

  • Liam Graham eventually gets over the line to keep his tour survival hopes alive and book his place in the second round.

    Leading 9-8, his marathon match with Fergal Quinn got pulled off this afternoon. The 18th frame got underway this evening and went the way of Quinn on a re-spotted black to force a decider. However, it was Graham who prevailed 10-9.

    Next up for the Scot is a second round clash with compatriot Ross Muir.

  • An emphatic victory for Q Tour Playoff winner Stephen Hallworth. He's thrashed Bulcsu Revesz 10-2 to earn a second round meeting with Anthony Hamilton. 

    In his time away from the professional circuit, Hallworth has become a well respected commentator, after today's game he said he wishes to carry on broadcasting whilst he is competing next season.

  • Iulian Boiko completes a 10-2 demolition of Andrew Pagett. He fires in a fine break of 128 to get over the line and will play Louis Heathcote next up. Defeat for Pagett sees him relegated from the tour.

    Meanwhile it is game on for 14-year-old Michal Szubarczyk against Dean Young on table three. He's claimed two in a row to trail 7-5. Remember, Young must win to remain on the circuit.

  • Robbie McGuigan staves off Hatem Yassen's fightback with three on the bounce to win 10-6. Next up for McGuigan is a second round tie with Mark Davis. 

    Shoot Out finalist Liam Graham is digging deep to keep himself in the race to stay on tour. The Scot had trailed Fergal Quinn 6-2, but has taken all five frames today to now lead 7-6.

    Farakh Ajaib eases to a 10-2 win over Baipat Siripaporn, who is subsequently relegated from the World Snooker Tour.

  • Liam Davies earned his place in the second round with a 10-2 demolition of Ahmed Elsayed, who is now relegated from the professional circuit. Davies will now go on to face Sanderson Lam.

    Meanwhile, 2023 Women's World Champion Baipat Siripaporn's professional status is hanging by a thread. She now trails Farakh Ajaib 9-2. 

    Egypt's Hatem Yassen is turning up the heat on Northern Irish tour rookie Robbie McGuigan. From 7-2 down at the start of the afternoon, Yassen is now just one behind at 7-6.

  • Zhao Xintong blitzed to victory this afternoon, whilst sporting a Pokemon named Chimchar on his bowtie. 

    Described as an agile monkey with a tail made of fire, Chimchar was an apt choice of Pokemon for Zhao, who averaged a speedy 17.5 seconds per shot as he scorched a path to round two.

  • Simply sensational from Zhao Xintong. The returning Chinese star fires in a tournament high 141 to get over the line as a 10-3 winner over Ka Wai Cheung. 

    He now progresses to face Long Zehuang in round two. In the meantime, sit back and enjoy this spellbinding break.

  • A massive morning of action is underway here at the English Institute of Sport. The legendary Jimmy White takes to the baize for his 45th World Championship campaign. He's bidding for a first Crucible appearance since 2006 and takes on Anton Kazakov. 

    There's also great anticipation for 14-year-old Michal Szubarczyk's World Championship debut. He's bidding to become the youngest ever Crucible competitor. Having already earned a tour card for next season, he is guaranteed to become snooker's youngest ever professional. The Polish sensation is up against Scotland's Dean Young, who must win to stand a chance of tour survival.
